DECORATIVE AND TEXTURED STAINLESS STEELS

DECORATIVE AND TEXTURED STAINLESS STEELS

Stainless steel types are often confused, leading to misunderstandings about their specific characteristics. It’s essential to clarify the differences between these two categories of products.

Decorative stainless steel sheets or coils are distinguished by their pattern or design, which is mechanically impressed on one side only , leaving the other side almost smooth (type 2M).
To create the pattern, stainless steel is passed through a rolling mill equipped with rollers that imprint the design on the surface.

Here are some common decorative patterns:

  •  Linen Cloth
  •  Square
  •  Elephant Skin
  •  Checkerboard
  •  Diamond
  •  Austenite
  •  Striped
  •  Ice Flower

Decorative stainless steels can be produced from 2B/BA finish material and in all major alloys, with the most requested and used being AISI 304, AISI 316L, AISI 430, and AISI 441.
Thicknesses typically range from 0.5 mm to 2.0 mm, with custom dimensions available upon request.
Additionally, these steels can be colored using electrocoloration (I.N.C.O.) or PVD technology.

The surface decoration provides not only high aesthetic value but also specific vandal-resistant and anti-slip properties. The pattern acts as both a scratch-resistant feature and an anti-slip grip (not certified) for walking surfaces.

Decorative stainless steels are used in various sectors, particularly where surface wear resistance (for cladding, profiles, doors, flooring, etc.) and high-end aesthetic requirements (for furniture, construction, general fittings, architecture, and design) are needed.

The production process for textured stainless steel is quite similar to that for decorative stainless steel, but coils or sheets pass through a pair of embossing rollers. Unlike decorative rollers, both rollers are engraved (type 2W).
The pressure applied by the "male" and "female" rollers transfers the pattern onto both sides of the material, creating one concave and one convex surface.

Here are some common types of textured stainless steels:

  •  Rice Grain Type 5WL
  •  Rice Grain Type 6WL
  •  Rice Grain Type 7WL
  •  Quilted
  •  TB2
  •  3D Printed
